If your child is dyslexic, you have found that just having them read to you more doesn’t help. You’ve also found that regular phonics programs don’t work because either they can’t remember the sounds of letters or they can remember the sound and they can sound out the pieces of a word but cannot put it into a whole. Sight words are their enemy so most reading books are painfully slow... The thing to remember is to not teach that child that he/she is dyslexic. Always treat the child gently. Praise for every word read well. Practice daily with making the child familiar with Most Common Words. I read the lists continually with my dyslexic student. I would read the word aloud and have the student repeat the word, or a phrase at a time. This is called The Shadow Method. Remember
